Homework

Your child will bring home a packet of homework along with their communication packets every Tuesday.  The entire completed homework is due the following Monday.  Hopefully giving students the weekend will be helpful to some of your busy families.

Students will have a reading log.  The fourth grade team is asking students to read 100 minutes per week.  They will need to fill out their reading logs every week and get a parent signature.  We will be working a lot on comprehension skills.  Hopefully by talking with your child about his/her  homework you will notice those skills and help support those skills.

Your child will also receive math practice sheets and occasionally some other sheets or activities that help support certain units we will be studying.  The math can be tough, especially for parents because we didn't learn it the way it is being taught today.  There are TONS of great YouTube videos to support the lessons, and I will try to post some of my own teaching on here to help you and your child with these challenging lessons.  Your child should never spend more than 20 minutes working on math!  If your child is super confused or frustrated the homework isn't serving its purpose and your child should talk to me about it the next day at school (or you can write me a note in the planner).

Learning good homework habits is important.  Please encourage your child to do his/her best and be responsible.  Homework is meant to be a review and to reinforce what is taught in class.  It is also a great way for parents to interact with their child's school work, it is not meant to take away from playtime!  I have a child too, I know how important it is for these kiddos to just be kids :).

If you ever feel like your child needs something more or less in terms of homework PLEASE contact me.  I never want a child to feel frustrated or not challenged enough.  You are your child's best advocate.

These planners are a wonderful communication tool.  We will be writing our daily activities in the planners at the end of every day, along with any reminders.  The planners will come home every day and need to be read and initialed by a parent and sent back to school every day.  There may even be rewards if all kids get it signed ;).  If I ever need to write you a note, it will be in the "notes" section at the bottom of the planner.  Please make sure to check and initial your child's planner every night.  If you ever need to write me a note this is a great place to do so.  These planners cost a lot of money but they are well worth it if they are used daily!
